How to Choose a Folding Mobility Scooter in Canada

The short answer

Start with how the scooter will get into your car and home. Check the heaviest single piece, measure the trunk opening, and decide whether you want one piece folding or removable sections. Next compare overall width and turning radius as separate numbers. Only then choose range and ride features.

1Start here

Compare the piece you will actually pick up

The useful number is the heaviest piece in the exact loading setup you will use. Total scooter weight can hide a removable battery, seat, or front section. A model that looks heavier on paper can be easier to load when it separates into manageable parts.

One number does not describe every loading routine

The Go Go Carbon is published at 35 lb without its battery and 39 lb with it. The Go Go Elite Traveller 2 is much heavier as a complete scooter, but its front section is also 35 lb because it comes apart into five pieces.

Choose the loading method first, then compare the exact piece that a person will carry. Do not assume that an electric folding button changes the amount of weight that still has to be lifted.

See current manufacturer lift figures
Model Published lift figure How it travels
Go Go Carbon 35 lb without battery, 39 lb with battery Folds as one piece
Go Go Elite Traveller 2 35 lb front section Separates into five pieces
Go Go Super Portable 41.6 lb without battery, 49.9 lb with battery Folds with the seat attached
Buzzaround CarryOn 47.5 lb main body without seat and batteries Folds flat and separates
Travel Buggy HELIX 55 lb net as published One pull flat fold
MOVO S26 56 lb without battery, 73 lb with battery Electric fold
Pride Revo 2.0 57 lb front section Separates for transport

The current Care Made and MOVO specifications for the MOVO Pilot do not agree on weight, capacity, or folded size. Those disputed figures are deliberately left out until the exact stocked version is confirmed.

2Measure the route

Measure the trunk opening, not just the cargo floor

A scooter fits only if it can pass through the opening and rotate into place. Measure the clear width and height between the trim, then the usable cargo depth with the seats in the position you normally use.

Travel Buggy HELIX folded flat and positioned sideways inside the cargo area of an open crossover

The folded shape matters as much as the smallest number

The Go Go Carbon folds to 19 by 17.5 by 26.5 in. The Travel Buggy HELIX folds to 35 by 24 by 13.7 in. One is short and upright. The other is longer and flatter. Either can be the better fit depending on the vehicle.

The HELIX shown is laid flat across the cargo floor as one realistic loading example, not a guarantee of fit in every vehicle. Leave room for the lift path too: a package may fit once inside but still be difficult to turn through a sloped hatch or around a trunk lip.

Opening width

Measure between the trim

Use the narrowest clear width, not the widest point of the cargo area.

Opening height

Include the trunk lip

Measure the smallest vertical space the folded scooter must pass through.

Cargo depth

Keep the seats where you use them

Measure with passengers, walkers, groceries, and other regular cargo in mind.

Model Verified folded measurement Important detail
Go Go Carbon 19 by 17.5 by 26.5 in Tows like luggage when folded
Travel Buggy HELIX 35 by 24 by 13.7 in Folds flat and stands upright
MOVO S26 31.5 by 19 by 23.6 in Electric fold
Go Go Super Portable 12 in folded depth Seat stays attached
Buzzaround CarryOn 12 in high without the seat Seat and batteries remove
3Choose the mechanism

Folding and disassembly solve different problems

Choose the mechanism that matches the person who will store and load the scooter. A one piece fold reduces setup. Removable sections reduce the weight of each lift. An electric fold changes the folding action but does not remove the lifting step.

Four useful portability patterns

There is no single best fold. The right design depends on whether your priority is quick storage, a lighter individual piece, an automatic action, or a scooter with more comfort and capacity.

Practise the complete routine you expect to use, including battery removal, seat removal, lifting, and the order in which parts go into the vehicle.

One piece manual fold

Fewer loose parts

The Go Go Carbon, Go Go Super Portable, Travel Buggy HELIX, and MOVO Pilot fold without separating the frame into several sections.

Electric fold

The scooter handles the folding action

The MOVO S26 folds electrically. Its manufacturer lists 56 lb without the battery, so the loading plan still matters.

Flat fold plus removable parts

Change the package before lifting

The Buzzaround CarryOn folds to 12 in high without the seat and separates into a main body, seat, and batteries.

Take apart travel scooter

More pieces, lighter individual lifts

The Go Go Elite Traveller 2 and Pride Revo 2.0 separate for transport rather than folding flat as one piece.

4Check indoor fit

The narrowest scooter may not make the tightest turn

Overall width tells you whether a scooter passes through a space. Turning radius tells you how much floor it needs to change direction. Check both against the narrowest doorway, hallway corner, elevator, and room where the scooter will be used.

Width and turning can point in opposite directions

The Go Go Carbon is only 17.5 in wide but has a 53 in turning radius. The MOVO S26 is 23.6 in wide but turns within 30.7 in.

If the scooter will stay mostly outdoors, a wide turn may be acceptable. If it must turn through a home, width alone is not enough.

Compare width and turning radius
Model Overall width Turning radius
Go Go Carbon 17.5 in 53 in
Go Go Elite Traveller 2 19.45 in 37 in
Buzzaround CarryOn 19.5 in 48.75 in
Pride Revo 2.0 20.75 in 52 in
Go Go Super Portable 21.5 in 51.6 in
MOVO Pilot 21.6 in Not published on the current MOVO page
MOVO S26 23.6 in 30.7 in
Travel Buggy HELIX 24 in 37 in
5Match the route

Choose portability first or ride comfort first

The lightest folding scooters make the fewest promises about rough surfaces. Smaller solid wheels and no suspension keep weight and folded size down. A larger travel scooter can add suspension, capacity, and a larger seat, but it needs more room and a heavier loading plan.

Read comfort features beside the transport numbers

Pride lists no suspension on the Go Go Carbon or Go Go Super Portable. They are built around compact travel.

The Pride Revo 2.0 has front and rear suspension, a 20 by 18 in seat, and a 400 lb capacity. It is also 47 in long, and its heaviest transport piece is 57 lb. That is the tradeoff in one comparison.

Portability first

Smooth floors and paved routes

Prioritize a compact fold, a manageable lift figure, and the turning space your home or destination provides.

Ride comfort first

Longer outings and varied paved surfaces

Compare suspension, wheel size, seat dimensions, capacity, and ground clearance, then confirm the scooter still works with your vehicle.

If outdoor comfort matters more than folding size, compare the wider range in our mobility scooters collection before deciding.

6Read the test correctly

Read the range number with the rider weight beside it

Published range is a test result, not a promise for every trip. Rider load, slopes, surface, temperature, battery condition, and repeated starts all affect the distance. When a manufacturer publishes two figures, use the one closest to the total load you expect.

Plan the round trip, then keep room above it

Write down the longest normal outing, including the return distance. Choose a published figure comfortably above that need, then check whether the rating was measured at a similar load.

The Go Go Elite Traveller 2 with 18 Ah batteries is rated up to 22.2 km at 220 lb and 16.7 km at 300 lb. The load changes the answer enough to matter.

Compare current manufacturer range statements
Model Published range Test detail
MOVO Pilot Up to 15 km MOVO notes that conditions affect range
Go Go Carbon Up to 16.1 km Manufacturer maximum
Go Go Super Portable Up to 16.1 km at 220 lb, 14.2 km at 300 lb 11.7 Ah battery
MOVO S26 Up to 18 km 11.5 Ah battery
Travel Buggy HELIX Up to 20 km Two 5.8 Ah batteries
Go Go Elite Traveller 2 With 18 Ah batteries, up to 22.2 km at 220 lb and 16.7 km at 300 lb Battery option and load both matter
Pride Revo 2.0 Up to 28.6 km at 200 lb and 23.8 km at 400 lb Manufacturer load specific test
Buzzaround CarryOn 23.2 km on the main battery, 12.1 km on the spare, 35.2 km combined Tested at 200 lb and requires both batteries for the combined figure
7Avoid the common traps

Six comparison mistakes worth avoiding

1

Comparing total weight with a heaviest piece figure. Those numbers answer different questions. Match the number to the way the scooter will be loaded.

2

Assuming the narrowest scooter turns the tightest. The 17.5 in wide Go Go Carbon needs a 53 in turn. Width and turning radius must be checked separately.

3

Measuring only the flat cargo floor. The opening, trunk lip, hatch angle, and room to rotate the folded scooter can be the real limits.

4

Assuming an electric fold means a light lift. The MOVO S26 folds electrically and is published at 56 lb without its battery.

5

Assuming every model in this collection folds flat. The Go Go Elite Traveller 2 and Pride Revo 2.0 disassemble for transport instead.

6

Comparing range without the test load. Use the figure published for the closest rider load and leave room for route and battery conditions.

Why buy from Care Made

Real guidance from a British Columbia showroom

Care Made is supported by the same mobility equipment team behind a working showroom in British Columbia. We compare the scooter as it will actually be lifted, stored, charged, and driven, not as a list of isolated specifications.

Tell us who loads it, what you drive, the narrowest space it must pass through, and where it will be used. We will explain the tradeoffs clearly, including when the simpler model fits better.

?Narrow it down

Which one is right for you

Find the line that sounds most like your week and start with these models.

You want the lightest complete one piece fold

Start with the 39 lb complete carbon fibre model. The next option is heavier but keeps its seat attached while folding.

You need the tightest published turn

Start at 30.7 in, then compare the two models at 37 in for their different folding and loading routines.

You prefer a simple manual fold

These both use a manual fold and avoid a powered folding mechanism. Compare the lift figure and folded shape before choosing.

You want parts that separate for loading

Compare a 35 lb front section, a 47.5 lb main body, and a 57 lb front section, then decide how many pieces you are comfortable handling.

You want an electric fold

This is the electric folding option in the current collection. Plan around its 56 lb battery removed lift figure.

You prioritize suspension and a 400 lb capacity

This model gives up one piece folding for front and rear suspension, a larger seat, and the highest capacity in this collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which folding scooter brands do you carry?

Golden Technologies, Pride Mobility, MOVO, and Travel Buggy. We pick models based on ease of folding, trunk friendly weight, and how they hold up day to day.

Are these scooters airline approved?

Some scooters here use lithium batteries that their manufacturers describe as airline compliant or travel ready. That does not guarantee acceptance. Confirm the exact scooter, battery watt hour rating, and handling arrangements with the airline before travel. We can provide the manufacturer battery specifications for the model you are considering.

Can I lift a folding scooter into my car?

Compare the heaviest single piece, not the total scooter weight. Verified figures in this collection run from 35 lb for the lightest battery removed frame or disassembled front section to 57 lb for the heaviest disassembled front section. One piece folding models can weigh more. Use the comparison above and ask us to confirm the exact lift figure before ordering.

How long do they take to fold?

Manual folding scooters fold in 10 to 30 seconds with practice. Electric folding scooters take about the same with a button press.

Are folding mobility scooters tax free in Canada?

Yes. Mobility scooters qualify as assistive devices, so we sell them with no GST or HST in Canada. The tax free price is applied automatically at checkout.

Do you ship folding scooters across Canada?

Yes. Free shipping across Canada.

Not sure which one fits your car and your week?

Tell us who loads it, what you drive, the narrowest doorway, and the routes you use most. We will explain which models fit those facts and why.
