MOBB Transfer Bath Bench with Curtain Control
A transfer bench only works if it sits above the wall of your tub, and only stays dry if the curtain can still close. MOBB solved the second part. Your tub decides the first.
Start here
Measure your tub wall, floor to the top.
This is the one number that decides whether a transfer bench works in your bathroom, and it is the one number nobody can look up for you. It takes about thirty seconds.
- 1Stand outside the tub, on the bathroom floorThis is taken from the room side, not from inside the tub
- 2Put the end of the tape on the floor, against the tubRight where the outside face of the tub meets the floor
- 3Run it straight up to the top of the wallStop at the highest point of the rim, not at the tiles above it
- 4Read the number and write it downThat is your tub wall height, and it is what the bench has to clear
- ✓Seat to floor 17.5 to 21.5 inMOBB's own figures for model MHSBCS
- ✓Legs 29.5 in apart, 17.5 in front to backOutside measurements, so you know the floor space it needs
Read the two numbers side by side. A tub wall that came in under 21.5 in has a setting waiting for it above the rim. One that came in over 21.5 in does not, and that is worth knowing now, with a tape in your hand, rather than on the day the box arrives.
iMost people only need the tape once. Tub wall height is fixed for as long as you have the tub, so the number you take today also answers the same question for a clamp on rail or a bath lift later on.
Why the curtain matters
A wet floor is the fall that happens after the bath.
A transfer bench sits half inside the tub and half outside it. On most benches that leaves the shower curtain with nowhere to go, so it hangs outside the tub and the water follows it onto the floor.
- +Curtain control built into the seatThe curtain hangs inside the tub while the bench is in place
- +Water runs back into the tubWhich is the whole point, and the floor you step out onto stays dry
- =Product Innovation Award, 2024Access Abilities Conference, for this exact design
iHere is the check that matters. Set the height, then sit on the outside end before you run any water. All four rubber feet should touch the floor at the same time and the seat should not rock at all. If it rocks, one leg is a hole out, and that is a thirty second fix.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Anyone who finds stepping over the side of the tub unsteady. You sit down on the part of the bench that is outside the tub, lift your legs over the wall, and slide across. Both feet stay on the floor until you are already seated, so there is no moment of balancing on one leg.
-
A transfer bench sits half in and half out of the tub, which usually leaves a gap where the shower curtain cannot close. The curtain control section in the seat gives the curtain a place to hang inside the tub while the bench is in place, so water runs back into the tub instead of onto the bathroom floor.
-
The seat height adjusts from 17.5 to 21.5 inches, so measure your tub wall from the floor to the top of the rim and make sure it is under 21.5 inches. The legs span 29.5 inches along the bench and 17.5 inches front to back, so check you have clear floor beside the tub for the outside legs.
