Medical-grade lift chairs

Stand up with ease, and recline all the way back

Smiling senior man rising to stand from a Golden power lift recliner in his living room

A power lift recliner does something an ordinary recliner cannot. At the touch of a button, the seat gently rises and tilts you forward until you are almost on your feet, so standing up takes far less effort on your knees, hips, and back. Press the button again and it lowers you down slowly and safely. And when it is time to rest, it reclines all the way back, flat enough to nap or sleep in.

Every Golden lift chair is an FDA-approved Class II medical device, built and tested as medical equipment, not ordinary furniture.
Smiling senior man rising to stand from a Golden power lift recliner in his living room

Every Golden chair raises you to your feet the same way. The only real difference is how far the chair reclines.

Two and three-position chairs

The everyday choice. Lean back to relax or watch TV, sit upright again, and lift to stand whenever you are ready. Simple, dependable, and easy to use.

Infinite-position MaxiComfort

Reclines all the way to flat, so you can nap or sleep right in the chair. The back and footrest move on their own into a zero-gravity position that eases pressure on your back, helps with swelling, and supports better circulation.

Exclusive featureOnly from Golden

Turn any Golden chair into a Straight Lift

Straight Lift is a way your chair can be set up, not a different chair and not a paid add-on. Instead of tilting you slightly forward the way a standard lift does, the seat rises straight up. That keeps you balanced and steady, which makes caregiver-assisted transfers and moving to or from a wheelchair safer and easier. Golden is the only manufacturer that offers it, and any Golden lift chair you order from us can be configured this way at no extra cost. If you think it would help, just let us know and we will set it up for you.

How to Choose the Right Lift Chair

The short answer

Start with seat width, seat depth and floor-to-seat height. Then compare recline, heat or massage, and the clearance behind the chair. The right size should fit the person and the room.

1Where to start

Fit comes first

Compare seat width, seat depth and floor-to-seat height. The tables cover Golden models; the Pride Mobility hub links to Pride lift-chair size guides.

Man sitting upright in his Golden Cloud PR510 lift chair in a living room, holding the hand control

Feet flat, knees level, back against the cushion

Sit all the way back. Feet flat on the floor, knees about level with your hips, and two or three fingers between the seat edge and the back of your knee.

Floor-to-seat height ranges from 18.5 in on Golden Elara PL118MSM to 23 in on the Tall MaxiComforter PR535. Choose a height that lets the person sit with their feet supported.

Petite, tall, or wider than average

The Golden Cloud PR510 is the one chair Golden sizes by height: Small/Medium for 5 ft 1 in to 5 ft 6 in, Medium/Large for 5 ft 7 in to 6 ft 4 in.

The Golden MaxiComforter PR535 comes in six sizes, from 4 ft 8 in to 6 ft 8 in. For the other five Golden chairs use the table above, or send us a height and weight and we will match the size.

2The step people skip

Measure the space behind the chair

A lift chair needs clear floor in front for the footrest and a gap behind for the recline. The gap behind is the one people forget, and it runs from 17 in to 30 in across our Golden range.

Where the chair will live

Measure from the wall to where the back of the chair will sit. Among these Golden models, the Golden Austin UC342 needs the least room at 17 in, the Large Golden Rhea PL442 the most at 30 in. Keep a power outlet within reach.

Think about the route in as well. For Golden's in-home service, tell us about stairs, narrow halls and elevators when you order. Pride lift chairs use standard shipping, so arrange help to bring the chair inside and set it up.

3Most often assumed

Heat, massage, or neither

Heat and massage are the two features people ask about first, and the two most often assumed to be on every chair. They are not: three of the seven Golden chairs in this guide offer neither.

Older man relaxing fully reclined in a Golden Rhea PL442 lift chair in his living room

Standard, optional, or not offered

Two of these Golden chairs have warmth built in. The Golden Austin UC342 comes with heat and vibrating massage as standard. The Golden Rhea PL442 comes with HeatWave, Golden's far infrared warmth, and no massage motor.

On the Golden Cloud PR510 and the Golden MaxiComforter PR535 they are options you choose when you order. The Golden Elara PL118MSM, Golden Dione PL446 and Golden Titan PL449 offer neither.

Heat and massage

Warmth plus a gentle vibration

Standard on the Golden Austin UC342, which pairs them with a simple three position recline. An option on the Golden Cloud PR510 and on every size of the Golden MaxiComforter PR535.

HeatWave

Warmth without the vibration

Golden's far infrared warmth, for people who want the heat without the motor running. Standard on the Golden Rhea PL442 and an option on the Golden Cloud PR510.

Neither

Positioning is the point

The Golden Elara PL118MSM keeps things simple. The Golden Dione PL446 and Golden Titan PL449 put the emphasis on power headrest, power lumbar and more zones instead.

If aches and stiffness are the reason, sit in the Golden Austin UC342 and the Golden Rhea PL442 back to back. One vibrates and one does not, and that usually decides it.

4What the zone count means

How much adjustment do you want?

For the Golden models in this guide, the big split is between three position chairs and MaxiComfort. Within those groups, the zone count tells you how many parts of the chair move on their own.

Care Made team member helping an older customer with the hand control while he lies back in a reclined lift chair in the showroom

Zones are the parts that move independently

A three position chair moves the back and footrest together. A two zone MaxiComfort chair moves them separately, which is what makes flat and zero gravity possible. Four and five zone chairs add a power headrest and lumbar.

Every Golden chair shown here lifts you to your feet the same way. The zone count only changes what happens once you are sitting down.

Two zone MaxiComfort

Flat, zero gravity and a television position. The Golden Cloud PR510 reaches four presets at one touch of its AutoDrive control, and the Golden MaxiComforter PR535 adds a Trendelenburg position, feet above the heart.

Four and five zone

Plus power headrest and lumbar

For people who read, watch television and nap in the same seat. The Golden Titan PL449 adds a fifth zone, Twilight, which tilts the whole seat and back together.

USB charging: in the hand control on the Golden Elara PL118MSM, on the chair on the Golden Rhea PL442 and Golden Dione PL446, plus a wireless phone charger, cup holder and removable table on the Golden Titan PL449. The Golden Austin UC342 has no USB port.

5Quick check

Weight capacity, and the extra wide sizes

Every standard size of the Golden chairs in this guide is rated to 400 lb. Above that, Golden offers three extra wide sizes here, and a wider seat comes with them.

Woman standing up from her Golden MaxiComforter PR535 lift chair with the seat fully raised

Wider seats, higher ratings

The Golden MaxiComforter PR535 Medium Extra Wide has a 27 in seat and a 500 lb rating. Its Large Extra Wide has a 29 in seat and is rated to 600 lb, as is the Medium Extra Wide Golden Cloud PR510.

A rating is a ceiling, not a target. Near 400 lb, an extra wide size gives more room to shift and rest the arms, and is often the more comfortable chair.

Capacity is the weight of the person using the chair. Sitting on an armrest or the footrest, or two people sharing the seat, puts load where the chair is not built to take it.

6Two minutes, three positions

The sit test

In the showroom or at home, the same three checks tell you in two minutes whether the size is right. Run the chair through its whole range, not just the seated position.

Older customer holding the hand control of a leather lift chair in the Care Made showroom while a team member looks on

Check that the controls are easy to use

Compare button size, labels and reach. Make sure the person using the chair can find lift and recline comfortably.

If the chair is for someone else, have them run the three checks, not you. Leg length decides whether the feet reach the floor, and only the person sitting in it can feel where the lumbar lands.

Standing

The lift should leave you on your feet

At full lift you should be standing with a slight bend in the knees and the seat behind you. Pushed onto your toes means the seat is probably too high for you; knees still well bent means too low.

Sitting

Feet flat, two fingers behind the knee

Hips against the cushion, feet flat, knees about level with your hips, and two to three fingers between the seat edge and the back of your knee. The armrests should take your elbows without lifting your shoulders.

Reclined

Head held, heels on the footrest

Recline all the way. Your head should rest on the back, not hang over it, and your heels should sit on the footrest, not past it. If you plan to nap in the chair, this position matters most.

7Learn from others

Five mistakes worth avoiding

1

Choosing by height alone. Two people of the same height can need different seats. Seat depth and floor to seat height decide comfort, and Golden publishes both for every size.

2

Forgetting the wall. The Golden chairs in this guide need 17 to 30 in behind them depending on the model and size. Measure before you order, not after the chair arrives.

3

Assuming heat and massage come with every chair. Three of these seven Golden chairs do not offer them, and on two more they are an option you add when you order.

4

Buying more zones than you will use. For getting up, sitting down and watching television, a three position chair does the job. Extra zones are for people who nap, read and recline in the same seat.

5

Sizing up to be safe. Too wide leaves the armrests out of reach, too deep makes you slide forward. Bigger is not safer. Fitted is safer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which lift chair brands do you carry?

We carry Golden Technologies and Pride Mobility lift chairs. Golden offers MaxiComfort positioning and a recommended in-home delivery and assembly service. Pride VivaLift! models offer power positioning with standard manufacturer-direct shipping. Explore the Pride Mobility hub to compare Pride models.

How do I choose the right size lift chair?

By seat measurements, not height alone: seat width between the arms, seat depth, and the height of the seat from the floor. Golden publishes all three for every size, listed in step one of this guide. For Pride, use the size guide on each product page linked from our Pride Mobility hub. The Golden Cloud PR510 is the Golden chair sized by height, Small/Medium for 5 ft 1 in to 5 ft 6 in and Medium/Large for 5 ft 7 in to 6 ft 4 in. Or send us the height and weight of the person who will use the chair and we will recommend a model and size, as we would in our showroom.

What size and weight do Golden lift chairs support?

Every standard Golden size shown here is rated to 400 lb. The Golden MaxiComforter PR535 Medium Extra Wide is rated to 500 lb, and its Large Extra Wide and the Golden Cloud PR510 Medium Extra Wide to 600 lb. Sizes run from Petite/Small to Tall on the Golden MaxiComforter PR535, which fits people from 4 ft 8 in to 6 ft 8 in.

How much space do Golden lift chairs need behind them?

Between 17 in and 30 in from the back of the upright chair to the wall, depending on the model and size: 17 in for the Golden Austin UC342, 19 in for the Golden Elara PL118MSM, 26 in for the Golden Titan PL449 and 30 in for the Large Golden Rhea PL442. The full list is in step two. Leave room in front for the footrest and keep an outlet within reach.

Do Golden lift chairs offer heat and massage?

Some do. The Golden Austin UC342 has heat and vibrating massage as standard. The Golden Rhea PL442 has HeatWave warmth as standard, with no massage. On the Golden Cloud PR510 and Golden MaxiComforter PR535 heat and massage are an option you choose when you order, and the Cloud can take HeatWave instead. The Golden Elara PL118MSM, Golden Dione PL446 and Golden Titan PL449 offer neither.

What is the difference between a three position lift chair and MaxiComfort?

Both lift you to your feet the same way. A two or three position chair reclines part way, with the back and footrest moving together. A MaxiComfort chair moves them separately and reclines all the way to flat, including a zero gravity position, so you can nap or sleep in it. The section above the product list explains both.

What happens to a lift chair in a power outage?

Every chair we sell has a battery backup, so if the power goes out the chair can still bring you back to a seated position. The Golden Titan PL449, Golden Rhea PL442 and Golden Dione PL446 use a rechargeable lithium backup, the Golden Elara PL118MSM uses 9 volt batteries, and the Golden Austin UC342, Golden Cloud PR510 and Golden MaxiComforter PR535 include a battery backup as standard.

What is Straight Lift?

A way any Golden chair can be set up, at no extra cost. The seat rises straight up instead of tilting you forward, which keeps you balanced for caregiver assisted transfers and moving to or from a wheelchair. Tell us when you order. The section above the product list explains it.

Which lift chairs can have in-home delivery and assembly?

All Golden lift chairs. We recommend adding the C$450 full in-home delivery and assembly service, which you can add right on the product page. It includes room of choice placement, complete setup, and a working check before the delivery team leaves. Pride lift chairs use free standard manufacturer-direct shipping; in-home delivery and assembly are not available for Pride.

How long does Golden delivery and assembly take?

Standard delivery usually takes 4 to 9 business days. With in-home delivery and assembly, allow about two to three weeks: once your chair reaches the terminal nearest your home, the delivery team calls you to book an appointment that suits you. Timing varies with your destination and the size you choose, and you can call us at any point and we will tell you exactly where your order stands.

Can I pay for a lift chair over time?

Eligible customers can choose available Shop Pay Installments plans at checkout. A 0% APR plan has no interest; approval, rates and terms depend on the offered plan. See how financing works.

Will tax be added at checkout?

Care Made does not add tax at checkout on the lift chairs shown in this collection. Review the final order total before placing your order.

Do Golden lift chairs come with a warranty?

Yes. On every Golden lift chair we sell, the chair frame, lift frame and recline mechanism carry a limited lifetime warranty. Electrical parts, meaning the motor, transformer, control box and hand control, are covered in full for three years, and Golden then pro rates years four through seven. The Golden Austin UC342 is the one exception, with three years on electrical parts and no pro rated period. If you ever need to claim, call Care Made and we will handle it for you.

What else helps with getting up and down at home?

A lift chair solves the living room. For the bedroom, an adjustable bed raises the head and knees and, on a hi-low model, brings the mattress down to a height you can stand from. For the bathroom, see bathroom safety, and for getting around, walkers and rollators. Our Mobility Resource Centre has more on all of them.

Still deciding? Ask us.

Tell us the height and weight of the person who will sit in it, the room it is going in, and whether warmth or massage matters. We will recommend a chair and a size.
