Walkers & Rollators Canada
How to Choose the Right Walker or Rollator
Start with the walking aid your healthcare provider recommends. A rollator adds hand brakes and, on many models, a seat for rests. Check handle height, brake control, lifting weight and wheels for your route. A four-wheel rollator is unsuitable for prescribed non-weight-bearing or partial-weight-bearing use.
Weight, and getting it into the car
If you lift the rollator into a car, compare its weight, folded shape and the height of the loading edge. Choose a lift that the person handling it can manage safely.

The lightest rollator we carry, at 10.6 lb
The byACRE Carbon Ultralight weighs 10.6 lb without accessories and folds to roughly 9.8 in wide. Check the folded package against your vehicle opening.
The Drive AeroCarbon Ultra Lite is next at 11.5 lb, also carbon fibre but rated to 330 lb. The aluminium Drive AeroWalk Ultra Lite at 14.8 lb is the value step down.
Four wheel rollators only, so the comparison is like for like. Heavier is not worse: the extra pounds usually buy a wider frame, a higher rating or bigger wheels. How it folds matters too. Most fold along their length and stand on their own, while side folding models such as the Hugo Sidekick and the Airgo Fusion F18 fold across their width, which suits a narrow gap beside a car seat.
Get the fit right
Handle height affects your posture and reach to the brakes. Measure before comparing adjustment ranges.

The handle should meet your wrist
Stand in your usual shoes with your arms hanging relaxed at your sides. The top of the handle should line up with the crease of your wrist.
That measurement is your handle height. Check it falls inside the range below before you order.
Handle height ranges for selected models
| Model | Handle height range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Airgo Fusion F18 | 29.5 to 35 in | Also converts to a transport chair |
| Airgo Fusion F20 | 30 to 36.5 in | Wider 20 in seat version |
| Hugo Sidekick | 30.5 to 35 in | Folds side to side |
| Evolution Xpresso Low Wide | 30.5 to 35.5 in | Lower frame, wide seat |
| byACRE Carbon Ultralight Compact | 30.7 to 35.4 in | Smallest of the three byACRE sizes |
| byACRE Carbon Ultralight Regular and Wide | 31.5 to 37.4 in | Same frame, two seat widths |
| Drive AeroWalk Ultra Lite | 31.5 to 37.3 in | Good reach for taller users |
| Drive AeroCarbon Ultra Lite | 31.7 to 37.6 in | Reaches the highest of any model here |
| Evolution Xpresso Wide | 32.5 to 37.5 in | 20 in seat width, two frame heights |

The handles adjust. The seat does not.
Seat height is built into the frame, so if you plan to rest on it you get the right height by choosing the right size, not by adjusting it later.
The Evolution Piper comes in four seat heights: 17 in, 19 in, 21 in and 23 in. The byACRE Carbon Ultralight is 22.4 in in Compact and 24 in in Regular and Wide. Tell us the inside leg measurement and we will size it with you.
Brakes and grips
Practise slowing, parking and using the seat before taking the rollator out.
Squeeze the levers up to slow down. Push them down until they click to park. Locking both brakes is what makes the seat safe to sit on, so sit only once both levers are down.

The grip does most of the work
A well shaped grip spreads pressure across the whole palm instead of concentrating it in one spot, which matters a great deal if you lean on the handles or have arthritic hands. The Drive AeroWalk Ultra Lite has particularly good grips, shaped to fill the hand rather than sit under it.
How hard the brakes are to squeeze varies more between models than any specification sheet suggests. If grip strength is limited, tell us and we will point you at the lightest actions we carry.
One label worth decoding. Evolution badge their brakes CF for cable free, though their own specification sheet calls them concealed cable. Either way CF does not mean carbon fibre: our carbon fibre rollators are the byACRE Carbon Ultralight, the byACRE Carbon Overland, the Drive AeroCarbon Ultra Lite, the Drive Nitro Elite CF and the Rehasense ATHLON SL. The Human Care neXus 3 is the one genuinely cable free frame we carry.
Wheel size decides where it can go
Smaller wheels suit smooth indoor floors. Larger wheels can help with pavement changes, but wheel size alone does not make a route suitable.
Check the surface, slopes and obstacles on your usual route, and follow the model’s use limits.
Indoors, tight spaces
Turns easily in hallways, bathrooms and around furniture. Best kept to smooth, level floors.
The everyday all rounder
Comfortable indoors, and fine on sidewalks, store aisles and level pavement. The sensible default for most people.
Outdoors and rough ground
Consider larger wheels for varied outdoor routes. Check stability, braking and the exact model’s surface limits.
If most walking happens outdoors, this affects your day more than the brand on the frame. For genuinely rough ground, the byACRE Carbon Overland is built for it.
Walker or rollator?
Almost everyone says walker for anything with handles. Inside a store the two words mean different things.
Basic walker, two wheels
A light frame with two front wheels and no seat, for short distances indoors: down a hallway, to the bathroom, around the kitchen. Not designed for sidewalks or uneven ground.
The Folding Walker with 5 Inch Wheels and the MD by Drive Air Go are the two we carry.
Rollator, wheels and hand brakes
Most rollators have four wheels and hand brakes; many include a seat for rest breaks. You push a rollator rather than lift it. The Rehasense PIXEL is a seatless indoor-only model, so check the intended use before choosing one.
Most models on this page are rollators, with seated and seatless options for different needs.
Four wheels offer a steady rolling base and can support a seat when a model is built and rated for sitting. Never sit on a seatless rollator such as the Rehasense PIXEL. Three wheel models turn more tightly in narrow hallways but give up some of that: the Drive Nitro 3 Wheel and Drive Winnie Lite Supreme are our two. A third type, the upright walker, puts the supports at forearm height so you stand straight instead of hunching. The Drive Elevate is that one.
Weight rating
Check the capacity for the exact model and size. The table below highlights selected options rated above 300 lb.
Selected models rated above 300 lb
| Model | Rated capacity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Drive Nitro HD | 450 lb | Heavy duty four wheel rollator, 10 in front wheels |
| Rehasense EXPLORER Large | 440 lb | Large soft wheels for outdoor routes |
| Evolution Xpresso Wide | 450 lb | 20 in seat width, two frame heights |
| Human Care neXus 3 | 441 lb | Cable free, folds compactly |
| MOBB Aluminum Folding Rollator | 400 lb | Straightforward four wheel design with a seat |
| Drive Nitro Sprint | 350 lb | 10 in front wheels |
| Folding Walker with 5 Inch Wheels | 350 lb | Traditional walker, not a rollator |
| Drive AeroCarbon Ultra Lite | 330 lb | Carbon fibre at 11.5 lb |
| Drive AeroWalk Ultra Lite | 330 lb | Light for its rating |
| byACRE Carbon Overland | 330 lb | Built for rough ground |
Two things the table cannot show. The Evolution Trillium and Evolution Xpresso Lite are rated to 300 lb in standard sizes but 350 lb in Tall, so the size changes the rating. And the byACRE Carbon Ultralight is rated to 285 lb, the lowest here.
Four mistakes worth avoiding
Never checking the handle height range. Every model adjusts, but not to the same heights. Measure floor to wrist first, then filter. This prevents most returns.
Buying on price alone when you will lift it daily. The cheapest rollator is rarely the lightest, and weight is the one specification you cannot change later.
Assuming CF means carbon fibre. On Evolution models it means cable free. Two different things, two different prices.
Choosing small wheels for outdoor walking. An 8 in wheel is excellent indoors and hard work on gravel. Match the wheel to where the walking actually happens.
A range chosen for everyday needs
We can help compare handle height, brake control, wheels, seat fit and lifting weight for your routine.
Tell us the height, where they walk most and whether they need a seat, and we will tell you what we would suggest in person, including when the cheaper option is the right one.
Which one is right for you
Find the line that sounds most like you and we will point you at the right shelf.
Compare the frame weight with what you can safely lift. These lighter models are a useful starting point.
Go for 10 in wheels or larger.
You want an upright walker, with the supports at forearm height.
Look for a light brake action and a grip that fills the hand.
Start at 400 lb and up.
A hybrid that folds into a transport chair, so someone can push you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a walker and a rollator?
A basic walker has no wheels or front wheels and usually no seat. A rollator rolls on wheels and has hand brakes; many include a seat. The Rehasense PIXEL is a seatless indoor model. Follow the type of aid recommended by your healthcare provider.
How do I know what height my walker should be?
Wear your usual shoes, stand as straight as you comfortably can with your arms relaxed at your sides, and measure from the floor to the crease of your wrist. That measurement is your ideal handle height. Check it falls within the adjustment range of the model you are considering, because those ranges vary by several inches between models.
How do you lock a rollator so you can sit on it?
For a rollator with a seat, follow its manual to set both parking brakes before sitting. On many models, you push both hand brake levers downward until they click. Check that the frame cannot roll and leave the brakes locked while seated. The seatless Rehasense PIXEL must never be used for sitting.
Does a walker or rollator arrive assembled?
Examples that arrive fully assembled include: the byACRE Carbon Ultralight, the byACRE Carbon Overland and the Drive AeroWalk Ultra Lite. Unfold them, set the handle height, and they are ready to walk with. The Evolution Trillium is close behind, with only the backrest to fit. If assembly worries you and you are looking at a model not named here, ask us before you order and we will tell you exactly what is involved.
Does the seat height adjust?
No. Handle height adjusts on the rollators we carry. On models with a seat, seat height is fixed by the frame, so choose the size that fits. The Rehasense PIXEL has no seat. The Evolution Piper comes in four seat heights from 17 in to 23 in, the byACRE Carbon Ultralight is 22.4 in in Compact and 24 in in Regular and Wide, and the Evolution Xpresso Wide comes in a 22 in and a lower 19 in version. Tell us the inside leg measurement and we will work out the size with you.
How do rollators fold?
Most four wheel rollators fold along their length, so they collapse narrow and usually stand up on their own. Side folding models such as the Hugo Sidekick and the Airgo Fusion F18 collapse across their width instead, which suits a narrow gap beside a car seat. The byACRE Carbon Ultralight folds to roughly 9.8 in across.
What is the lightest rollator you carry?
The byACRE Carbon Ultralight is 10.6 lb without accessories. Drive Winnie Lite Supreme is a three-wheel rollator at 11 lb; Drive AeroCarbon Ultra Lite and Rehasense ATHLON SL are about 11.5 lb, with the ATHLON figure excluding its bag. Rehasense PIXEL is about 11.5 lb with accessories, and Evolution Piper is 12 to 13 lb. The 8 lb MD by Drive Air Go is a two-wheel walker. Compare each format, folded size and weight with the lift you can manage safely.
Which rollator is easiest to put in a car?
Compare weight and folded dimensions with your vehicle and lifting ability. The byACRE Carbon Ultralight is 10.6 lb without accessories and folds to about 9.8 in wide; Drive AeroCarbon Ultra Lite is 11.5 lb, and Evolution Piper is 12 to 13 lb. None of those figures guarantees an easy lift for every person.
What wheel size do I need on a rollator?
Smaller wheels suit smooth indoor floors. Larger wheels can help with pavement changes, but wheel size alone does not make a route suitable. Compare braking and stability, and follow the exact model’s limits for surfaces, slopes and obstacles.
What weight can a walker or rollator support?
Most walkers and rollators are rated to 300 lb. We also carry heavy duty models rated higher, including the Drive Nitro HD and Evolution Xpresso Wide at 450 lb, the Human Care neXus 3 at 441 lb, the Rehasense EXPLORER at 440 lb, and the MOBB Aluminum Folding Rollator at 400 lb. Note that the Evolution Trillium and Xpresso Lite are rated to 300 lb in standard sizes and 350 lb in the Tall size only. The rating is listed on every product page.
Does CF mean carbon fibre?
Not always. Evolution uses CF for cable free: the brake cables run inside the frame. Carbon-fibre models include byACRE Carbon Ultralight and Carbon Overland, Drive AeroCarbon Ultra Lite at 11.5 lb, Drive Nitro Elite CF and Rehasense ATHLON SL.
Which walker and rollator brands do you carry?
Care Made carries Drive Medical, Evolution, byACRE, Human Care, MOBB Home Health Care and Rehasense. Use the product grid for the current selection.
Can Care Made help me choose the right walker or rollator?
Yes. Tell us the user's height, where they walk most often, roughly what they weigh, and whether they need a built in seat, and we will recommend the model we would suggest in person. Email or call us before you order if you would like guidance.
Do you deliver walkers and rollators across Canada?
Yes. We ship walkers and rollators across Canada, with free shipping on most items.
Do walkers and rollators come with a warranty?
Most walkers and rollators come with a manufacturer warranty covering the frame and certain components. Coverage varies by brand and model. Reach out and we will share the warranty details for any specific product.
Are walkers and rollators tax free in Canada?
Yes. Walkers and rollators qualify as assistive devices, so we sell them with no GST or HST in Canada. The tax free price is applied automatically at checkout.
Still deciding? Ask us.
Tell us the height of the person using it, where they walk most, and whether they need a seat. We will tell you which model we would put them on, and why.
